winter-ize your home

The same principle applies whether you are dressing yourself or your home to combat the chilly temps. It’s about layering with different textures. Incorporating a cozy winter vibe into your space is easy with a few accessories.

Swap in flannelette sheets and add a chunky knitted throw to your bed. Drape a sheepskin rug over your couch or dining chairs. Scatter jumbo cushions on the floor to encourage lounging in front of the hearth. No fireplace? No worries. Group masses of white candles together on a rustic timber tray for an instant faux glow.

let’s have a kiki

We hosted a dinner party on the weekend to bid farewell to my friend Kirsten.  She’s bound for Canada (insert sad face). Here are a few snaps of the table setting and decorations.  The truffle boxes and tags are from Spotlight, the flowers I sourced from our local market at Rocklea, and the linen-like paper napkins are by Donna Hay.

hamptons house envy

The beauty of the interwebs is that it allows me to virtually escape to places yonder and snag decor inspiration for my humble abode. Such is the case with this to die for estate in Bridgehampton (which can be yours for a paltry $4.75M). It’s the perfect blend of traditional on the outside and modern minimalist on the inside. I could be very, VERY happy here.

First, let’s get our bearings with a bird’s eye view.

aerialDon’t you just want to hop-scotch your way to the front door?

front elevation

Now that’s what I call an entrance. I need that light fitting in my life, and those milky whitewashed floors are beyond.

entrance

Come take a seat and admire the antler chandelier. Side note, I’m nuts about the drapes mounted high above the window frame, and the extra length that pools on the floor like an elegant ballgown.sittingShades of beige need not be boring. I’m itching to set that table with antique linens, bone handled flatware and masses of candles.

dining

The master suite. Four poster bed. Check. Chaise by the fireplace. Check. Gabled roof. Check. Sweet dreams.

bedroom

Yeah, the pool ain’t half bad either. The grey slate paving is a genius contrast against the weathered timber fence.
