in the mood for vday

Skip the lacey, corsety, costumey nonsense this Valentine’s Day and slip into a slinky tee and a pair of boyshort knickers instead.  Add messy waves to your mane, a lick of come hither mascara for the lashes and dolly up your toes with a harlotty hue. Set the mood with a seductively scented candle and crank up the smooth tunes.

OR you could just show up naked :)

gotta have it: ll bean travel organiser

ll bean

I not ashamed to admit that when I travel I take a bucket load of “essential” toiletries, makeup and hair paraphernalia along for the ride. I’m very Type A about packing (shocker I know). Everything has a place and I like to be able to find it fast.

A few years ago I invested in one of these LL Bean personal organisers. Consider me obsessed.

The magic contraption contains a multitude of elasticated mesh pockets, sturdy zippered compartments and a built in hook. Monogramming is available for a few extra dollars. I originally purchased the medium size ($29.95), donated it to the hubby and upgraded to the large size ($39.95). The grande dame accommodates my barrel brushes and GHD.

These bags would make an ideal gift for the frequent traveler and I’m told are perfect for camping. Do people still holiday in tents? I do not understand the concept.

hot lips

My name is mrs flashman and I’m addicted to nude lipstick (on account of my 200 psi schmackers). It’s time I ventured out of my barely there rut, and slapped on a pop of colour.  I’ve narrowed the field to a universally flattering orangey-red, and a fabulous fuchsia.

What say you? Leave me a comment on this post with your preference and I’ll heed the majority vote.

test drive: supplements

supplements

For the most part, I eat well and exercise five or six times a week, but I’m finding that as I get older it isn’t enough to sustain good health.  Supplements can be a great support where your diet or lifestyle is hindering your wellness.

I’ve been taking silica and liquid chlorophyll for a couple of weeks now and I’m super impressed with the results.  Here’s the down low.

Qsilica

The Problem

You have congested skin, dull hair and flimsy nails.

The Solution

Qsilica $44 (100 tablets)

Dosage

2 tablets per day, taken morning and night with a glass of water.

What it does

Silica is important for the healthy growth and functioning of skin, hair, nails and teeth, and plays a key role in the production of collagen in the skin. It can aid in maintaining a youthful complexion by replenishing the body’s stores of Silica, whilst also revitalizing skin, and strengthening and promoting hair and nail growth.

The verdict

After just two weeks my skin is clearer than it has been in ten years. Hallelujah!

Liquid Chlorophyll

The Problem

You are still suffering from the indulgences of the holiday season.

The Solution

Swisse Ultiboost Chlorophyll Mixed Berry $13 for 500ml

Dosage

One to three teaspoons (5-15ml) in the morning, preferably before breakfast.  Can be taken straight or diluted with water.

What it does

Chlorophyll is the green pigment found in plants. When ingested, it has an alkalizing effect, counteracting the acidic nature of processed foods. Put simply, it aids digestion and helps rid the body of nasty toxins.

The verdict

It gave me back my b-b-bounce. I feel less bloated and more hydrated.

**I am not a medical professional. Duh! You should definitely do your own research before taking any supplements.

how to: hot rollers

I’ve got a set of jumbo hot rollers, and I’m not afraid to use them. Here’s why.

I can blow-dry my long, fine hair to ad infinitum with a barrel brush, and I’m guaranteed two things – the shoulders of an Olympic swimmer, and flat pancake hair within the hour.

But give me 15 minutes with a set of ceramic hot rollers, and I’m assured an all day pass to bouncy hairville. Care to retire your curling iron and join me?  This is how I roll.

collage 2

1. Start with freshly washed  and air dried hair. Spritz all over with a heat protectant spray.
2. Begin rolling at the crown in a backward direction.
3. Next, roll up each side (don’t place them higher than your ears).
4. Split the remaining hair into two sections (like pigtails), then divide each side into 3 or 4 rollers.
5. Leave the rollers in until they cool completely.  Use this time to apply your makeup, balance your checkbook, whatever.
6. Remove all of the rollers and gently separate the curls with your fingers or a wide toothed comb.
8. Finish with a light coat of hairspray.

**for longer lasting waves spray the ends of each section with a curl enhancing spray before rolling.
